We feed Purina Pro Plan Sport 30/20. (Chicken flavor) This dog food is good for both puppies and adults.
All of our puppies are socialized by numerous different adults and they are used to being around my 4 nieces. Our puppies are also used to being around the other adult dogs, but we don't have any cats. We have never had a family experience any issues when introducing a puppy to a cat. This usually goes really well when the puppy is young and they always seem to get along well.
Our puppies are not potty trained. Each family prefers their own training method, so this helps prevent any confusion. They also aren't ready to start potty training until at least 8 weeks of age anyway, which is when we send them home with their new families.
We recommend purchasing a snuggle puppy. It isn't a requirement, but our customers love it! It has a heartbeat that is calming for the puppy and prevents some of the crying when they are placed in their crate. A lot of people request a blanket that we have rubbed on the mother dog, but we've never felt that it works and the smell fades quickly. Once it gets peed on and you need to wash it, the smell is gone anyway.
We do not allow visitors before puppy pick up day. We take quality photos from the front and each side and we're happy to answer questions about their personalities if they are old enough to do so. We don't allow people to visit because it could expose our kennel to Parvo, which is a deadly virus that can kill the entire litter of puppies and lives in the soil for years. It could also infect and kill any other litters that we had in the future. We would literally have to move completely, which obviously is not realistic. It is also becoming common for people to find out where you live and then come and steal puppies and dogs. For the safety and health of our puppies and family, we just can't take the risk of having visitors.
We do allow people to request that the puppy's tail is left on if they are on our waiting list. You do have to have first pick because this is something that must be decided in the first 3 days of the puppy's life before we dock tails. It would not be fair to let you choose your puppy before someone else higher up on the list than you, so be sure to join the waiting list early if this is something you know you want! We typically don't let anyone see pictures or choose a puppy until 4 weeks of age. Sadly, it's not uncommon for a puppy to pass away in the first couple weeks of life and we don't want anyone to be heartbroken. We are tender hearted enough! I'm a mom baby nurse, so I really do everything possible to prevent this, but sometimes it just can't be helped. We do require that you pay for the puppy in full at 3 days old when selecting your puppy. This is because it could be harder for us to find a home for the puppy if you back out later, since leaving the tail on is not the breed standard. If for some reason the puppy does not survive after paying, you would be issued a full refund and remain on the list until the next litter. Luckily, we have never had this happen.
Flying to Pick up puppy:
Please keep in mind that if you book flights in order to pick up the puppy, we don't recommend booking nonrefundable tickets. We are not held responsible for the cost of your ticket, regardless of the situation. There is always a very slim chance that something could happen to the puppy, the flight is cancelled, or you could have an emergency and are unable to fly. We are not responsible for any travel expenses. Make sure you book on an airline that allows puppies to fly at 8 weeks of age. The puppy MUST be paid for as your carry on item ($100 pet fee at most airlines) and cannot be placed in cargo. We recommend ordering a soft puppy carrier from Chewy.com. They are inexpensive and good quality. It should say if it is approved for airline use.
Puppy pick up day is on a Saturday morning at our farm. We try to do it on the Saturday that the puppies turn 8 weeks old, but it does depend on our farming schedule and their exact birthday.
